Computational Bioinformatics Node (National Institute of Bioinformatics - INB)

The Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, Life Sciences Dept. hosts the Computational Bioinformatics Node (GN6) of the National Institute of Bioinformatics.
The National Institute of Bioinformatics (INB) is part of the ISCIII's Platform of Biomolecular and Bioinformatics resources, and the Spanish National Node of the European 
infrastructure for bioinformatics Elixir

The node manages INB's computational infrastructure, databases, servers and the associated applications. INB's computational node develops applications related to data management in large genomic and biomedical projects, and provides support in the use and adaptacion of bioinformatics applications to HPC environments, and helps in the application of Elixir recommendations to national bioinformatics projects. 

Main projects

  • 1.

    International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC)- Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Data Management

    The ICGC goal is to achieve a comprehensive description of genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic changes in 50 different tumor types which are of clinical and societal importance. The spanish consortium has generated a comprehensive catalogue of genetic alterations in 500 independent tumors of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL).

    The Pan-Cancer analysis of the Whole Genomes (PCAWG)

    PCAWG projects is performing a comprehensive analysis of tumor whole genomes from more than 2500 individuals, bearing a diverse series of cancer types.

    ELIXIR - European Life Sciences Infrastructure For Biological Information

    The mission of ELIXIR is to construct and operate a sustainable infrastructure for biological information in Europe to support life science research and its translation to medicine and the environment, the bio-industries and society.
