IV Jornada de Bioinformàtica i Genòmica

We are glad to invite you to the IV Bioinformatics and Genomics Symposium, which will take place at the Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona (PRBB) (Dr. Aiguader, 88, 08003 Barcelona) on the 20th of December of 2016. This year the symposium is organized together by Bioinformatics Barcelona Association (BIB) and the Section of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics and the Section of Genomics and Proteomics of the Societat Catalana de Biologia (SCB). This first joint meeting continues the tradition of yearly symposiums organized independently by each section and has the objective of being a shared forum to present the excellent research carried out in Catalonia in these fields and promote interdisciplinarity, scientific interaction and collaboration between the research groups.
STRUCTURE AND PROGRAM
The symposium will consist on four sessions, including two keynote talks from internationally recognized scientists, Dr. Peter Campbell (Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, UK) and Dr. John Marioni (European Bioinformatics Institute, UK), and oral presentations selected from the submitted abstracts, followed by a poster session. As the central focus of this symposium are the students and postdocs, we strongly encourage them to submit and present their work, and take this event as an opportunity to exercise and enhance their communication skills, as well as to widen their perception of nearby activities in bioinformatics and genomics.

REGISTRATION
Registration is required before December 13th 2016 filling the registration form (registration is closed). Registration is free for all members of the SCB, 20 € for students (undergraduate and PhD candidates) or members of the BIB institutions, and 40 € for other researchers. You can become a SCB member or check the BIB associated institutions.
ABSTRACTS
Participants willing to present their research as an oral communication or a poster may submit a brief abstract of their presentation (maximum 300 words, Times New Roman 12 pt, MS Word format). Abstracts must include title, authors and affiliations (including email address of presenting author). Abstract submission deadline is November 30th 2016.
Oral communications should be in English and focus on general aspects of the projects (context, main goals and results), avoiding detailed technical information, with a total duration of 12 min + 3 min for questions. In case that the number of submitted communications exceeds the available time, the Organizing Committee will select the communications to be presented based on scientific interest and taking into account a balanced distribution among groups. The best communication by an student or postdoc will be given the 2016 BIB award.
