The Biological Littoral Processes Lab led by Esther Garcés is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research team at the Institute of Marine Science (CSIC) in Barcelona, Spain. The postdoctoral researcher will work on a project funded by a Plan Nacional project COPAs that aims at identifying the diversity of phytoplankton parasites in marine coastal environments.
Expected starting date is September 2019 but alternative dates can be discussed.
Desired skills and expertise
A PhD in Bioinformatics or a related field, good programming skills, and good writing skills are required. Experience with state-of-the-art approaches to analyse the molecular data generated in the ICM under an ecological point of view (diversity, community composition, taxonomic classification) is required. Previous postdoctoral experience will be considered.
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the in silico characterization of environmental samples, from water column to sediment. Among others, the candidate must be proficient in HTS data analysis (e.g. Illumina metabarcoding datasets), including scripting, programming, statistical analyses and applying common standard analysis tools and algorithms (vsearch, DADA2, R, python, Slurm, etc). Knowledge on phylogenetic analyses (e.g. Maximum Likelihood, Bayesian inference) is desired. Metabarcoding.
Contract duration and other benefits
We offer a full-time position for 1 year with the possibility of extension. Salary will depend on the experience of the candidate similar to Grupo1 of CSIC. The candidate will join a research team of two postdoctoral students, one PhD students, and a lab technician. The lab also offers extensive networking opportunities.
